Review: Maitresse by Agent Provocateur

Agent Provocateur Maitresse Agent Provocateur for women

Violets... pickled in sparkling aldehydes, sweetened by ylang ylang, and smoothed out by a warm, slightly sensual, suede note.

The main note, violet, which is usually a very high-pitched note to my nose, receives a sort of breezy support from the lotus note. As a result, the violet smells quieter and fresher than ordinary.

At the base I smell the remnants of the violet note, but the ylang ylang, accompanied by a quiet rose takes more of the stage. Not grandly however, it's more like the last two flowers remaining on stage as they are all exiting at the end of the show.

Beneath that I smell the musk, colored by amber and the whispers of powdery iris.

I initially didn't take to this fragrance (not a violet fan), but the more I wear it the more I'm able to understand it. A few people say that this is a sexy scent, and I would agree. But it's demurely sexy. Sexy because it's quiet, pretty, and feminine; but also because it's confident and womanly. The juxtaposition of those two sets of qualities is where the sexiness of this fragrance lies.
